KFUPM Unveils "KFUPM's Utopia" Mural to Inspire Community
It was an absolute pleasure of mine to work with the King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, on the mural “KFUPM’s Utopia”. Spanning 49.45m x 8.58m, The mural is designed to feel alive and interconnected, with each part flowing into the other, symbolizing how different fields of knowledge and areas of study come together to form a cohesive, dynamic whole, which is the essence of what the King Fahd University stands for. My hope is that this piece inspires those who come across it to dream boldly and embrace the power of creativity, science and imagination, its such an honor and a huge milestone for me to have this mural permanently on display in their campus. Banlastic's Mural at Jesuit Cultural Center in Alexandria
This mural was a collaboration between Banlastic Egypt and Exeter University, hosted by the Jesuits Cultural Center and funded by Knowledge E. Rana Hemdan, an Alexandrian Artist was inspired by the 12 stories as an output of a creative writing project by Exeter university on the occasion of Egypt hosting COP27 for 2022. هذه الجدارية هي أحد المخرجات الفنية التي تمت في عام 2022 بالتعاون بين بانلاستيك مصر و جامعة إكستر وتم رسمها في مركز الجزويت الثقافي. الجدارية صممتها ورسمتها الفنانة السكندرية رنا حمدان وكانت مستوحاة من قصص تم إنتاجها من ورشة كتابة قامت بها جامعة إكستر إستعدادا لمؤتمر الأطراف للمناخ.

رنا حمدان عندها 25 سنة، درست هندسة في جامعة اسكندرية. وهي مُتخصصة في رسم اللوحات بالزيت والأكريليك والجواش، بكل المقاسات، ونجحت في أنها تبيع لوحاتها في بريطانيا، وأسبانيا، ودبي، وفي أماكن متفرقة حول العالم، نجحت في أنها تبيع أكتر من 100 لوحة. وكمان بتعمل أغلفة لكتب زي غلاف كتاب حكمة بكر، اللعنة المزيفة، سنوات الثقب الأسود، وكمان أغلفة لألبومات زي Dream 23، وساميات. مصدر الهامها هم فنانين كتير منهم بيكاسو، خصوصًا لأنها بتنتمي للفن التكعيبي، وهي نفس المدرسة الفنية لبيكاسو. التأمل في لوحاته تساعدها في استلهام أفكار لرسوماتها. بالإضافة لدعم أهلها، ولدراستها للهندسة المعمارية. اللي ساعدتها تتجه للرسم التكعيبي، واللي هو بالأساس بيعتمد على الرسم باستخدام الأشكال الهندسية، وخلاها تمزج بين مجالين بسهولة. الصعوبات اللي واجهت رنا، رغبتها في دراسة الفنون والالتحاق بجامعة جوا أو برا مصر في المجال اللي هي بتحبه، بس أهلها مدعموش الفكرة، عشان "الفن مبيأكل عيش!" ودي حاجة مخلتهاش تستغنى عن حلمها، لأنها مصدقة فيه " كان تحدي كبير أني أقدر أرسم، وفي نفس الوقت أدرس مجال من أصعب المجالات في العالم، وأني أقسم وقتي، وأعلم نفسي ذاتيًا" بتحكيلنا رنا أن التحدي الأكبر، هو إثبات نفسها جوا البيت لأهلها وتأكدلهم صحة قرارها، أكتر من أنها تثبت نفسها للعالم. النصيحة اللي بتوجها رنا للبنات اللي عايزة تبدأ مشاريعها المستقلة، هي التعليم الذاتي، والبداية بالتقليد لأنه بيكون مفيد في مرحلة التدريب، وبيساعد في خلق الاستايل الخاص للفنان.
