Get to know me

Hello there, my name is Rana Hemdan, and I am a 28-year-old Egyptian architect, self-taught contemporary artist, muralist, illustrator, book and album cover designer, sculptor, and a three-time TEDx speaker. I graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at Alexandria University in 2021, majoring in architecture and construction, and my background in architecture has been a major influence on my artistic journey.

Artistic Journey

Over the years, I have participated in 30 exhibitions, both internationally and locally, including three solo exhibitions, and I have sold over 250 artworks worldwide. I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with major international brands like Galaxy and Cadbury, as well as showcasing my work at the Art Souk at the Arab Conference at Harvard University. My art has been featured in numerous local and international newspapers, magazines, and TV interviews, and I’ve also conducted several art workshops to share my passion and expertise. I’ve painted 10 murals so far, including collaborations with the University of Exeter in the UK, the Ministry of Health in Egypt, the Faculty of Engineering at Alexandria University, the National Museum of Riyadh, the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia, and Région Sud in France. Each mural is an opportunity for me to bring bold ideas to life on a large scale, leaving an impact on the spaces and communities I work with. My art style is characterized by a dynamic, complex, and colorful flow of shapes that come together to form intricate and bold compositions. This approach was inspired by my architectural studies, where I learned how simple geometrical shapes could come together to create something much larger—whether a building, a piece of art, or a feeling. I’ve been painting since I was five years old, and my work reflects who I am and what I’ve experienced. I paint about being here, about youth, love, loss, and finding beauty in the daily mundane. Growing up in Alexandria, my friendships, family, and city have shaped and, at times, shattered me in every way. These deeply personal journeys of self-discovery are translated into bold, vibrant canvases, celebrating life in all its complexity. For me, art is a way to tell stories, process emotions, and connect with others. Through my work, I aim to capture the full spectrum of what it means to be human transforming my personal experiences into universal reflections that resonate with others.
